Kelvin-Ramsammy
Kelvin Ramsammy, always eager to learn something new.

Since his hiring in May of 2021 as Senior Maintenance Mechanic covering all areas of the New Brunswick Campus, Kelvin Ramsammy has been busy continuing his education by earning licenses and certifications pertinent to his field.

To date, Ramsammy has earned five separate licenses including NJ High Pressure Black Seal Boiler Operator, NJ Blue Seal Refrigeration, EPA 608 Universal Certification, EPA 609 Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning Certification, and NJ High Pressure Blue Seal Stationary Engineer.

Ramsammy cites encouragement from his supervisors, Thomas Belloni, Central Manager, and Ted Elonis, Senior Director – Plants and Distribution, as major reasons for motivating him to earn these accreditations. Rutgers also provides reimbursement for the costs of these licenses, helping to ease the financial burden of taking the exams.

To prepare for the exams, Ramsammy spent time after work reading a few chapters each of his prep books, as well as studying intensely for a week before each exam.

“It is definitely an advantage to have these license and certifications and makes it easier to find better opportunities within IP&O and Rutgers,” said Ramsammy. “It never hurts to learn something new.”

Since passing all of his exams, Ramsammy has since been promoted to Mechanical Systems Mechanic I.

“It was an awesome opportunity,” said Ramsammy. “It is very beneficial to take the time, assess your job, and look at the opportunities around you. If you want to be an asset for Rutgers, all you have to do is stay focused, want to move forward, and be committed. The great thing about Rutgers is that each and every employee who wants to further themselves has that opportunity.”
