The RUES Training Bureau provides CPR and First Aid training for the general public and health care professionals. As an American Heart Association (AHA) Training Center*, courses adhere to the strictest standards and provide participants with the instruction and skills practice required by the latest AHA guidelines. The courses below are open to everyone with an interest in them and can be offered at alternate locations upon request. Training and Overview Information

All courses will be held at the Rutgers Public Safety Building located at 55 Paul Robeson Boulevard, New Brunswick, New Jersey, unless otherwise noted on the registration page. Parking is available on the deck adjacent to the building, and the entrance is located on Elijah's Way off Neilson Street. All University parking rules apply. Please visit RUDOTS for details. One-day visitor permits will be available for anyone not affiliated with the university.

Course fees include instruction, textbooks, and all training materials unless otherwise stated. Participants are expected to pay by credit or debit card at the time of registration. Arrangements must be made in advance of course registration if payment is to be made via purchase order either by a University Department or another agency.
- Participant Confirmation & Cancellation Notice

Participants who submit their registration via the online registration system (go.rutgers.edu/RUESclasses) will receive an email confirmation within a few minutes of submission. If you did not receive the message or encountered problems, please email training@ipo.rutgers.edu for assistance.
Important: RUES requests all participants to provide cancellation notice at least 72 hours before the course via email at training@ipo.rutgers.edu.
Course Cancellation Notice: Course registration fees are non-refundable. RUES requests that participants needing to cancel their participation provide notice of cancellation at least 72 hours prior to the course via email at training@ipo.rutgers.edu. Rutgers University Emergency Services reserves the right to cancel courses with less than three confirmed participants and will notify registered participants at least 48 hours before the course. All attempts will be made to reschedule another session based on the participant's preferences.

- BLS for Healthcare Providers

Designed for practitioners whose primary work environment is in a clinical setting or those providing direct patient care. This is the most comprehensive credential and is often a prerequisite for advanced training courses. Suggested participants include physicians, dentists, nurses, paramedics, EMTs, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, medical or nursing assistants, and other allied health professionals. A two-year certification card is issued after the successful completion of this course.

The Heartsaver AED Course teaches CPR, AED use, relief of choking in adults and children, infant CPR and relief of choking, and the use of barrier devices for all ages. It is intended for all lay responders, including firefighters, police, airline personnel, security guards, employees in the workplace, family members of patients at high risk for sudden cardiac death, and other lay rescuers who may need to respond to an emergency.
*NOTE: This course is generally NOT recommended or accepted for hospital/healthcare setting jobs or other medical professions. Please see the BLS for Healthcare Provider Course.

Heartsaver First Aid (General Principles, Medical Emergencies, and Injury Emergencies) and Environmental Emergencies. Designed specifically for the general public and lay rescuers. Provides basic information and practical skills for use at home or the workplace. It is an excellent course for workplace safety teams, security guards, daycare staff, teachers, coaches, babysitters, civic groups, church organizations, etc. A two-year certification card is issued after successfully completing a Heartsaver First Aid Course.

- CPR for Family & Friends

A course for the general public-parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts/uncles, friends, neighbors, babysitters, and co-workers. Both the Adult/Child and Infant CPR will be covered. This is not a credentialing course and does not issue a course completion or certification card.
It is intended for all lay rescuers, such as school children, family members of patients at risk for sudden cardiac death, and other laypersons who want to learn rescue skills for loved ones.If you would like to request a specific date for a group, please email training@ipo.rutgers.edu or call (848) 932-4875.
The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in all AHA courses and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent outside course sponsorship by the AHA. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for the AHA course material, do not represent income to the AHA.
