Students
- When do student parking permits go on sale?
-
Student permits will go on sale in August 2024 for the Fall ’24 semester.
- How do I purchase an E-permit?
-
Visit go.rutgers.edu parking and log in to your parking portal account with your NetID and password.
- Can I pay for my parking permit with financial aid?
-
No, we do not bill financial aid for your parking permit.
- Can I add my parking cost to my term bill?
-
Yes, select Term Bill as your payment option at the time of purchase. Please note that if you have an outstanding parking balance you will not be issued a permit until the balance is resolved.
- Will I receive a physical permit pass?
-
Rutgers uses license plate recognition (LPR). You will not receive a hang tag or sticker. The E-Permit system eliminates the need for hangtags and paper tickets, aligns with our commitment to the environment, and provides a convenient, paperless, self-managed parking pass system. You are still required to follow our rules and regulations. Any citations that result from parking violations are emailed to you.
- Can I add multiple vehicles to my parking permit?
-
Yes, you can add multiple vehicles to your permit. However, only one vehicle can be parked on campus at a time. If more than one vehicle is parking on campus this will result in a Fraudulent Use citation being issued to each vehicle.
- Where can I park?
-
Students may only park in lots designated for students: ipo.rutgers.edu/parking/permits/students
Please make sure that your plate is facing the driving aisle at all times. If your state does not have a front plate, then you cannot back into a parking stall.
- I live off campus but need parking. Am I eligible for a Rutgers resident parking permit?
-
Yes, there are a limited amount of Off Campus Living permits which allow for 24 hour parking in specific resident lots.
View the locations for Off Campus permits
Please visit your city's parking authority to find options for street parking near your off-campus home.
- I just purchased a new vehicle with temporary tags. Do I need to register it?
-
Yes, please register any new vehicle, even with temporary tags, that you will be parking on campus. Temporary tags must be registered as a license plate number, not a VIN number.
Once the permanent plates are received, revisit your parking portal account and add your new plates. Make sure your license plate is entered correctly; one letter or number off will result in a virtual ticket.
Please make sure to include the state the plate was issued from
- I have state handicap accessibility. What if there are no accessible parking spaces available?
-
Parking in handicapped stalls requires a valid Rutgers parking permit. Register with DOTS any permanent or temporary disabled placard or tag from Motor Vehicle Services and display credentials while parked on campus.

Appeals are reviewed in the order they are received. Processing times may vary. An email notice will be sent when an appeal is processed and adjudicated.

- Didn't know policies or regulations.
- Didn't see posted restrictions.
