Fall Protection must be provided when working on an unprotected walking/working surface that is six feet or greater above the next lower level. Fall Protection is a system designed to protect employees from the risk of falls while on an elevated surface during construction/renovation activities. The system includes, but is not limited to, guardrails, lifelines, and full-body harnesses used in conjunction with lanyards, lifelines, safety nets, and fall arrest systems. Construction/renovation activities that require fall protection systems include, but are not limited to, roof work, building interior and exterior work, excavations, theater scene setups, and wall and floor openings.

All university employees and contractors working at the conditions described above must follow fall protection standards outlined by federal and state regulatory agencies. REHS offers assistance in evaluating fall protection issues.
