Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) kicked off its participation in a semester-long series of meet-and-greets during the Weeks of Welcome at Rutgers University-Newark. Students took part in the interactive Public Safety Challenge, where Officers Paul Yearwood and Jay Mandal competed alongside their peers in a fun and engaging way.
Students who stopped by the RUPD table and completed a safety activity were rewarded with a special treat, courtesy of RUPD.

Our RUPD Community Affairs unit has been out and about on our campuses and in our communities. Recently they teamed up with the Weequahic Park Sports Authority Conservancy for a community event to beautify and revitalize Weequahic Park’s historic Divident Hill area. Divident Hill was the site of a boundary conference between Elizabethtown and Newark in 1668.
Our officers also attended Halsey in September. RUPD hosted a child safety exhibit with bubbles, face painting, balloon animals, and safety tips for parents. Over 300 child ID kits were handed out to families.
RUPD joined the Making Strides against Breast Cancer Walk in Newark, raising over $600 for research, treatment, and survivor support. Survivors were honored with custom ribbons and bags.

RUPD hosted a “Meet and Greet” on Wednesday, October 2, in celebration of National Coffee with a Cop Day! Over 500 members of the Rutgers University-Newark and Rutgers Health communities stopped by RUPD’s Public Safety Pop-Up Cafes to learn more about the department, services, and essential safety tips.
RUPD also shared important information in honor of National Pedestrian Safety Month.
